The Spaceport America Relay Race: El Camino Real de Tierra Adentro Trail will consist of teams of 12 runners that complete approximately 200 point-to-point miles over 2 days. The miles are divided into 36 segments (“legs”) of varying distances, and each runner on the team completes 3 legs during the race. Each runner will start and finish their leg at “relay stations”, where they will hand off to the next runner. The course will follow the El Camino Real de Tierra Adentro Trail, offering unparalleled vistas and unique challenges for the teams! Road, trails and urban trails are utilized along the course as it traverses beautiful desert vistas, farming communities and urban cityscapes. This event is an “open road” course.
The Course
Spaceport America Relay Race takes place in April when the continental climate offers ideal temperatures for both day and evening running. Teams of 12 (or 6) will conquer around 200 miles by foot starting in El Paso, a city rich in beauty and culture. Traveling along the historic El Camino Real de Tierra Adentro trail, teams will make their way north to Las Cruces. In the evening, teams will run under a blanket of stars through various cities, such as Mesilla and Hatch. As the sun rises in the beautiful desert surrounding Spaceport America, teams will continue to conquer the course on day 2 of their adventure. The finish line is completely unique to any running event: the final runner will run along the actual Spaceway at Spaceport America in New Mexico. The experience of running together as a team is unforgettable, and you will celebrate together at the finish line in Spaceport America with an epic after-party!

The Spaceport America Relay Race is designed in a manner where teams can be composed of people from all fitness levels. Teams often will recruit both runners and walkers.
